Durham County Commissioners Unanimously Approve Incentives for Science Foundry Expansion

About a year and a half ago, Science announced we acquired the US assets of MEMSCAP, specifically their MEMS foundry facility in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Since then we’ve been working on expanding the facility and recently met with the Durham County Board of Commissioners to discuss our plans and build local partnerships.

Our plans call for the investment of up to $65 million in a 57,000 square foot expansion in Durham County to support MEMS and semiconductor manufacturing for new, cutting-edge technologies, including brain computer interface devices and for our groundbreaking visual prosthesis, the PRIMA implant, creating more than 50 new high paying local jobs in the process.

The investment and expansion will be facilitated, in part, by a $930,000 ten-year performance-based incentive award unanimously approved by the Durham County Board of Commissioners.

Our long-term goal is to become the go-to manufacturing partner for the next generation of medical and brain-computer interface devices. We are excited to partner with Durham and expand in the Triangle region as part of this mission. The construction of our proposed facility, and our state and local partnerships, will enable us to increase production and achieve our goals. We are thrilled to be a part of the Research Triangle community and are very grateful for this support.
