Axon Probes

Active probes for highly scalable neural engineering built with our Foundry processes and Nixel and Pixel ASICs

Plug-and-play support for thousands of electrodes or microLEDs in a huge range of possible configurations.

Fully assembled custom active probes with up to thousands of electrodes or microLEDs, designed to work with Science headstages

Build your probe with Science ASICs: Nixel 512 for electrical recording and Pixel 2K or 16K for optical stimulation, assembled onto either a flexible or rigid substrate designed to reach your anatomical targets. Axon probes enable closed-loop neural stimulation and recording for next generation neuroscience applications.

A block diagram of Axon probes shows the probe receiving analog neural signals and outputting µLED control signals all whilst communicating with a SciFi headstage via USB. The interior of the Axon probe shows Science neural recording ICs sending digitized neural signals to an FPGA which sends digital stimulation frames to Science optogenetic stimulation ICs. A legend at the bottom calls out 'Up to 512 electrodes per IC' and 'Up to 16k µLED per IC'.

One platform, infinite layouts

By adjusting the design parameters like materials and the placement and count of electrodes and LEDs, you can create the exact Axon probe for your work.

  • Thin Film Probes

Built with layers of polyimide to create flexible structures, Thin Film Axon probes enable a wide range of 3D geometries and surface contact patterns.

  • Silicon Probes Coming Soon

Built on silicon to create rigid shanks and enable very dense wiring, the Silicon Axon probes are designed for high-density recording and stimulation.

Three SciFi headstages sit next to one another: one flexible, one rigid with a well, and one rigid without a well.

Probe library

Our probes are cataloged according to their quantity of recording and stimulating ICs to make it easier than ever to find the probe configuration that is right for you.
