We are seeking a Director of Clinical Education to lead the training and education programs that support the clinical adoption of our technologies. This role bridges science and communication: you will train internal teams — including sales, rehabilitation, and marketing — on the medical and scientific foundations of our products, and serve as a key point of contact with external stakeholders on medical and scientific issues.
This is a high-visibility role based in Alameda, CA, with frequent travel to clinical sites and partners across Europe.
Role responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deliver clinical education programs for internal teams, including sales, rehabilitation specialists, and marketing, ensuring scientific and clinical accuracy across all functions
- Train commercial teams on compliant scientific communication, including appropriate on-label messaging and frameworks governing healthcare professional interactions (e.g., Sunshine Act, MedTech Europe Code of Ethical Business Practice)
- Lead 1:1 and group training sessions, both in person and remotely
- Communicate with external stakeholders — clinicians, clinical sites, scientific partners, and others — on medical and scientific issues related to our technologies
- Travel frequently to clinical sites and partners in Europe to deliver training and support clinical adoption
- Attend and represent the company at medical and scientific meetings in Europe and the United States, supporting podium presentations, exhibit activities, and stakeholder engagement
- Translate peer-reviewed scientific literature and clinical trial results into teaching materials, presentations, and reference documents for both clinical and non-clinical audiences
- Collaborate with medical writing and clinical affairs teams on manuscripts, abstracts, training content, and educational materials
- Gather feedback from trainees and stakeholders and iterate on education programs to improve effectiveness
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant scientific literature and clinical developments in vision restoration
Key qualifications:
- Medical training/experience in a medical/clinical field
- Demonstrated comfort and skill leading both 1:1 and group training sessions
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with non-native English speakers
- Facility with reading, interpreting, and teaching from scientific and clinical literature
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including to Europe and to medical meetings in the US
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple training programs and stakeholder relationships simultaneously
Preferred qualifications:
- Background in ophthalmology, optometry, or a related vision-care discipline
- Operating room experience or familiarity with surgical environments and procedures
- Experience with medical writing (manuscripts, training materials, regulatory documents)
- Prior experience in medical device clinical education, clinical affairs, medical affairs, or as a medical science liaison
- Familiarity with compliant healthcare professional engagement and promotional material review processes
- Proficiency in additional languages, especially European languages
Salary/Pay Range:
For individuals hired to work in California, Science is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on geo-located salary bands.The base salary range for this full-time position is $165,000 – $220,000, annually + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
