Frank Brodie, MD

Medical Director for Blindness

Frank Brodie MD MBA is Science’s Medical Director for Science’s vision restoration programs, including PRIMA. He is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at University of California San Francisco and a vitreoretinal surgeon, caring for patients at Wayne and Gladys Valley Vision Center and the San Francisco VA Medical Center.

Dr. Brodie has been involved in a number of highly innovative projects throughout his career, including working on the PRIMA System with Dr. Daniel Palanker during his post-doc at Stanford in 2018–2019. Dr. Brodie attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania while simultaneously earning an MBA from the Wharton School of business. He completed his ophthalmology residency at UCSF and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Duke University. He has been awarded the Society of Heed Fellows award, the Michels Fellowship and most recently the Artemis Prize for his work with the Loving Eyes Foundation in caring for young children with craniofacial malformations. He has authored over 40 peer reviewed publications, multiple book chapters, and holds numerous patents in ophthalmic technologies.
