I’m pleased to announce that I have named our Chief Strategy Officer, Darius Shahida, as President.
Darius first became involved with Science as an investor in our Series B. He’s a rare operator who has both deep experience in medical devices, having previously spent eight years helping lead Butterfly Network, a breakthrough in miniaturized ultrasound technology, as well as fully belonging to our culture of fast-paced, vertically-integrated, technology-led innovation. He joined us full time in January as Chief Strategy Officer and has already had a big impact helping transform us from an R&D-focused organization awaiting our first marketing approval into a fully fledged commercial-stage multinational prepared to help patients in over a dozen countries.
My general philosophy of titles is to preserve a flexible, shallow organization as much as possible and conservatively recognize things that are already true. Darius has been doing the work of a President since he joined, being instrumental in our Series C and the European commercial launch of PRIMA, our retinal implant for blindness caused by geographic atrophy. I’m happy now to empower him as President to ensure Science benefits fully from his considerable talents.
