Science Founder and CEO Max Hodak Named to Time 100 Health List of the World’s Most Influential Leaders in Health

Science founder and CEO, Max Hodak, has been named to the 2026 TIME100 Health list of the world’s most influential leaders in health.

On selecting the individuals behind the defining health stories of the year, editors at TIME said: “The result is a community of scientists, doctors, advocates, educators, policymakers, and others who are transforming the health of the world.”

Max was recognized for his work in advancing brain-computer interfaces from research concepts to clinical realities. TIME writes:

“It’s no small thing to bring eyesight to the blind—or nearly blind. But that’s what Max Hodak, founder and CEO of Science Corporation in California, has helped achieve. The breakthrough: a pair of glasses with a tiny camera that can capture a scene and beam it onto a chip in the back of the eye by infrared pulses. The company worked with surgeons to implant the computer chip into the retinas of 38 people with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and showed in a study published October 2025 in The New England Journal of Medicine that it significantly improved vision. Nearly 80% of the subjects performed better on an eye chart by 10 letters one year post-op, and 84% of them could once again read letters, numbers, and words at home. “I’ve spent most of my life,” says Hodak, “trying to answer the question: What are the ultimate brain-computer interface technologies that will get us to some of what science fiction promises?”
